tyrone

Tuesday, May 25, 2010

I just got done participating in a chat set up for the families in our squadron with the SCO (Squadron Commander) and the CSM. While there is more that I cannot say online that that I can, I thought I'd do a little update on Tyrone.

The guys are still operating kind of bare bones over there. The unit that they took over for was 1/4 of their size, so they are building their own stuff as they go. Their power supply can still be spotty, but they are getting more generators. A/C is a must, not a luxury, because it gets up to 107 degrees in the daytime.

They are building really strong relationships with the locals where they are at. This is so important, as their whole mission revolves around making a more stable life possible for the populace. Communication is getting better by the day with the locals and our guys, and they seem to be receptive to what we have to teach and give.

Communication home is spotty at best. Tyrone and I are in a unique position to have more contact than most because of his current job over there, and it's still not much. I haven't heard his voice in a while...we get spotty messages sent back and forth online, no instant messenger, no webcam. As far as letting him know the day to day stuff, what the kids are up to, that kind of thing, letters are pretty much it. Which can take up to 2 weeks to make it to him, so it's not ideal. Still, I'm grateful for the contact we have.

The packages Tyrone has gotten have really made his day! They are without access to any type of store at all, so all the "stuff" ie snacks, entertainment, etc. that they have has to come in their care packages. He also loves getting letters. Just reading about someone else's day is a welcome distraction and a tangible reminder of the thoughts and prayers heading his way.

Tyrone is happy as possible in his situation. He jokes all the time, hasn't lost his classic "Tyrone" sense of humor. He is making plans for his next vehicle, what else! We are also making plans for the next several years for our family.

I am so proud of Tyrone. I trust and believe in the command group. I am incredibly proud of what they are doing, and I think that their specific mission is enormously vital to our success over there-and it is a mission of rebuilding, of hope, of freedom. That may sound cliched, but it is true. I miss Tyrone so badly my heart is aching, it is a physical pain. But I believe he is doing something world changing. He is my hero.

A water baby & a diva

Emmeline has all the makings of being a water baby! I introduced her to the sprinkler today and she LOVED it!

Shiloh was in such a great, playful mood. She was so much fun today!

no such thing as too much of a good thing

Yesterday was so much fun with the hose that we went and bought a cheap sprinkler today and had several more hours of fun!

first water fun of the year!

It is warm. I put the kids in swim suits. Friends came over. My friend H and I sprayed the kids like crazy with the hose. It was fun, the kids are exhausted. The end!

green week

Tuesday, May 18, 2010

For the last week and a half, Shiloh and I have been learning all about the color green, which included things like finding green objects on our nature walk and making projects out of them...

But the BEST part? Well, that was today. As the culmination of all of our learning about the color green, Shiloh and I made green cupcakes!!!

Lots of fun!

lots. of. play.

alien gabe!

Saturday, May 15, 2010

Last week was Gabe's Spring concert. The theme was outer space, and all the kids had to make and wear alien antennae, it was very cute! Gabe did a great job. I made the 2nd pic black and white with just Gabe in color so that he's easy to pick out! Also, check out the video at the end!

nature walk

Monday, May 10, 2010

After being stuck inside with SNOW and cold weather all weekend, we were ready to get out of the house this morning. The girls and I decided to see what we could find nature-wise in the wooded areas around our house and were pleasantly surprised. Emmeline slept the whole time, but Shiloh had a ball, and chased her share of birds, too!

rare pic!

First, every so rare that Kaleb agrees to be photographed these days, and WITH his mother TOUCHING him, no less! What can I say? Sweet as he is, he IS an 8 year old boy! Have I mentioned that I have been finding him reading with a flashlight under his covers when he's supposed to be in bed? Can't imagine where he got that from!
Kaleb is bringing me more and more joy these days. He is so BIG! It's new parenting territory for me and I am loving this stage for the most part. He has thoughts and ideas about things that are all his own, he's responsible enough to trust with new freedoms, and he is kind to a fault with almost everyone. I love my Kaleb!

Say what?
